The Irish Prison Service Pipe Band was formed in 1992, the band was formed by two serving prison officers Officer Kevin O’Neill and Officer Pat Cosgrove. The bands first St Patricks Day performance was in Kilcock, Co Meath in that very same year. Our primary role is to demonstrate the professionalism of the staff within our organisation. We have succeeded in this by ensuring that when called upon for an event by the Irish Prison Service that we ensure our appearance is immaculate at all times. It also helps that we can play well, which fortunately is made all the easier by our fantastic instructors whose dedication and some may say patience has helped each of us enormously to perform well.
Been a member of the IPSPB has given many of us a chance to visit and soak up the many different culture’s both home and across Europe as well as Western shores. It is only when you take up this chance will you realise what else is happening in these other countries other than Covid_19!!!. Apart from anything else you also get the opportunity to learn something new.
The band is today has been led by Pipe Major Officer Anthony Coy, Wheatfield Prison. On behalf of everyone in the Irish Prison Service Pipe Band and its staff in Ireland we would like to take this opportunity to wish you all a very happy St Patricks Day.
